Just Making Sure

My cars rear brakes run off a single pipe that runs from the servo but I thought (havin never looked at another gti system) that It would be a dual system to the rear not single, so I checked the servo and there's a blanked port so I'm assuming the last owner made it single for some reason. Anyhow I'm guessing it's not meant to be a single pipe with a t-piece?

Just want to know before I stick another pipe in, cheers

Discs or drums? What regulator is fitted?

Generally disc'd cars had 2 lines and 2 regulators, drum cars were single line, single regulator.

From what I remember the 1.6's had only one pipe going to the rear brakes with a blanked port in the master cylinder. There is a compensator valve mounted on the chassis at the left hand side in the engine bay too.

1.9's I think normally have two pipes going to the rear and two compensator valves mounted at the rear somewhere..

Your car should be ok as it is anyway

Replacemnt mc's these days often come full compliment of ports and include blanks if required.

As allan said that is how a drum braked gti came from the factory, 1.9 and base models had 4 port split systems.

Aye it's just passed an mot so they are safe enough but little things bug me and it's something I can do for free. It's a 1.9 chassis but all braking components have been changed by previous owner so I'm guessing for quickness he's just gone for the simplest system. To be honest I never looked at the compensator(s) so if it's only got one compensator I'm guessing I'll need to put another in when I plumb in the new pipe?

If you add a second line definitely, though if its working, just leave it!

But obviously 2 is better than one, plus if its how a 1.9 is meant to be I'd be happier. Like I say small things bug me with cars

I find single line and 1600 compensator to work very well with rear discs, preferable to the 1900 set-up.

Your car though so whatever makes you happy ;)

I run a single line to the rear and tee'd off above the axle. Works well for me with no issues

Aidan my pug is 1.9 rear beam (discs) with 1.6 compensator, no problems at all, sailed through two M.O.T's

Yeah mine passed mot yesterday, yous have got me conflicted whether to change the setup now lol, I'm needing to swap a few brake pipes anyway as they've been squashed slightly but are still letting fluid though. Might just leave the compensators then......
