Trailing Arms For More Neg Camber And More Toe In

Recommended Posts

ftoomsh

I am thinking of swapping the rear trailing arms with Xsara vts units.

I hear lots of people using 306 gti6 arms but the xsara vts arms give more toe in (0.72 I think)

So my query is are the torsion bars & arb going to be compatible

??

Depends what you use it for and the balance preference you like

To answer your question, yes your existing torsion bars and anti roll bar will work.

Be aware that the Xsara/306 rear brake discs have a different offset to the 205 ones. All the bits are interchangeable though.

Meaning that I would have to use gti6 / xsara rear calipers and discs ?

Or could I swap existing calipers n discs onto new arms?

you dont need to swap the calipers, they are the same other than piston size, its the disc+hub offset that differs

yes there are ZX's left...

Ah! so, so long as I use 205 rear hubs and discs I am fine then?

1 deg neg and parallel toe.

1 deg neg and parallel toe.

The gti6 /xsara vts are 1.2 deg neg & .72 toe in does this not give better cornering grip and better top speed stability

Maybe.

I guess it depends on preference.

Mine is quite mobile at the rear with these zx arms, 23mm torsion bars and 25mm a/r bar.

I kinda like it that way, we will see what its like on slicks soon....

They've got more toe in than that afaik, I'm guessing you're talking in mm?

They're 1.2 neg and 5mm toe in, very similar to the later 309gti arms

I've got 306 arms with 23mm bars, 25mm ARB and 306 brakes. It's a simple swap. I haven't measured the toe in, but I do know it's too much compared to standard. It's very predictable, you might say even benign. Not what you really want if you want to go fast. I'm going to give it a rejig to get some toe out.

Surely toe in on the rear is going to give improved stability at high speeds???? is this not what is preferred?

So xsara vts ph1 arms would be better than zx 16v on a tarmac rallycar??

depends how you want it to handle, personally I'd use the ZX arms so it turns in better,

I could do with a slightly stiffer front spring.
