Rear Brakes (Discs)

Recommended Posts

I fitted my new beam the weekend and also new rear discs and pads. On the near side the outter pad is tight up against the disc and is constantly touching it. I went for a drive round the block and the pad hadn't moved and as you can imagine the disc was very hot. Have I done something wrong??

Cheers

Did you wind the caliper pot back in fully before fitting the disc and pads?

Yeah, sorry forgot to mention the piston was wound right back in and there was space between the piston and inner pad

Do the sliders on the problemsome caliper still move freely?

Was the new disk identical offset to the old disk? 205 and 306 disks are the same fitment and diameter but different offset, and from memory a 205 disk on a 306 hub gives the issue you're seeing where the disk is hard up against the outer pad.

The pad is as far up the slider as possible. I changed the off side and all is fine. Used the disc out of the same box as the off side but having this problem. If I had wrong discs this would happen on both sides I guess??

Not if someone had changed the hub at some point on the nearside and used a 306 one rather than 205, or swapped the whole arm over with a 306 one.

Just compare the new and old disk from the nearside and should be obvious enough if that's the issue.

I fitted new hubs when I fitted the beam on Saturday. Both hubs were exactly the same with matching part numbers. If the discs are the same, what do I do?

If the pad is already at the edge of the slider what will freeing up the sliders achieve? I don't want to come across as being argumentitive, I would just like some info so I don't appear so stupid in future.

Cheers :)

Pad does not sit on the slider, it sits in the pad carrier.
