Recommend Me An Outside Car Cover

Recommended Posts

As the title sais really.

I want a decent car cover, preferable one with a soft underside so it doesn't scratch the car.

Has anyone used one like this and had problems or should I stick to the normal crappy car covers?

No to crappy cheap covers - I bought a Halfords special for my 205 several years ago and it rubbed the paint off down to the primer at the join of the top of the A pillar and roof.

I've also tried a slightly more expensive cover that had a better lining that didn't wear the paint, however the inner lining disintegrates after a few years - made my car look like it had a bad case of dandruff. Typically these are called lightweight breathable covers, are grey in colour and have (for want of a better word) a sort of "perforated" dimpled outer finish. These normally retail at around £100 and are better than the £50 Halfords ones but I've had two now on different cars and they both suffered the same fate after a few years.

I've now gone onto one of these, from this company and they're the tops for out door covers:

More expensive but you really do get what you pay for with these.

They're not the only company that do these covers - I've no connection to them except for the fact that I've used them before for hand made indoor covers and the aforementioned lightweight covers, however they highlighted to me the UV damage that can cause the linings to disintegrate on those and these new covers are the absolute business.

I've now got another of these "Ultimate" covers for my Bimmer too, I'd say if you can then pay the extra. Also try to get a deal, you never know...

I wouldn't buy one from halfrauds! There crap, cause loads of scratches and always blow off :/

I started the car up one day and it was touching the exhaust haha so it swiftly melted part of it. I found it hilarious as a couple of weeks later it set fire to some dust sheets in my garage. So funny

I have just looked and they do look very good. I think I'll be going with the lightweight .breathable one though. I don't fancy £175 of a car cover to be on the car at the back of my house, someone's already tried ppt I nick the pug! Didn't get far as there was no battery and it's got a unknown push button start :P
