Be1 Shifter Judders In Acceleration

Recommended Posts

pyrrhic

I have the BE1 box with mechanical reverse gear (no cables). On first and second gear, at low rpms, my shifter will judder, flopping left and right it happens mostly at light to mid engine loads. I have checked engine mounts and didn't find anything visibly wrong, the rubber isn't work out, but on the right hand side engine mount the metal piece is touching the aft rubber bumper

Is this a case of worn out engine mounts, or would the culprit be the connections and linakges on the shifter mechanism? Could it be the shifter half-bearing, Pug PN 2430 18?

That's usually caused by a worn out lower engine mount.

I went to my Pug dealer today and had a mechanic look at my car. He said the flopping around is due to my car being so lowered, basically my half shafts are at extreme angles and that makes the shifter move like that. He ruled out my engine mounts being the culprit. Sounds like a fair explanation or BS? He wasn't the shop's master mechanic, just some dude that works on newer Pugs.

it wont be a direct cause, but a worn inner CV joint can cause symptoms like this.
