Wet And Rusty Spark Plugs :( Head Gasket Failure?

Recommended Posts

pyrrhic

It all points to me needing a new head gasket, right?

Car sometimes sputters when on part throttle. No oil on coolant, no coolant on oil... yet!

Spark plugs show wetness and corrosion, see here: http://forum.205gtidrivers.com/index.php?showtopic=150486&p=1404036

So what are other might-as-well-do-it-while-the-cylinder-head-is-out kind of jobs on these cars? I imagine timing belt, water pump, seals around head cover and distributor, others??

I wish my Peugeots were as reliable as my Saabs!

Rebuilding the head might be worth while when you have it out. New oil stem seals and such, they all come with the head gasket set anyway.

Do not touch head gasket. That water is external to the engine.

Tom, is that a common thing to have water accumulate there?

As above, that looks like external water, not coolant. My Mi used to be a swine for filling the spark plug holes with water, but i had a vented bonnet...

Thinking about it, the water ties in with your spluttering problem too, i would bet good money when the spark plug wells are full of water the ht is tracking to earth through it...

Yeah the 'high tension' side of the coil that fires the plug. Like any energy it'll follow the path of least resistance so would rather discharge down to earth via the water than through the relatively high resistance of the spark plug.
