Oil Temp Sensor Blanking

Hi I've got an mi16 engine with an alloy sump I've fitted an after market oil temp sensor as the old one was faulty. I was wondering if I could blank the original sensor hole off so I could fit a lower strut brace .

Would a sump plug fit the hole ?
