Where To Buy Electric Plugs For Lights Etc.

Recommended Posts

My reverse light has stopped working and i'm pretty sure it's because the plug is corroded. Is there anywhere you can buy these connectors new? I'm assuming they are Peugeot specific?

I guess this is a really common issue with these cars and there seems to be a lot different plugs of various shapes and sizes, i'd probably replace all of them with new if they are available.

Could be the reverse switch on the gear box.

If it's a late car (I assume it is as you say light not lights) you just need a power timer or junior power timer connector that you can get from Vehicle Wiring Products, PoleVolt etc but if it's an early car see this thread - http://forum.205gtidrivers.com/index.php?showtopic=157337

As Glen says it could be the switch, use a bit of wire to bridge the two terminals on the connector to see if that makes the light come on.

Thanks, it is a later car '94 L reg and has one reverse light on the left and fog light on the right (both with different style plugs), I never knew that earlier cars where any different.

I had a quick look at the power timers but it definitely not the same plug, I'll get a photo of it in the morning.

I'll also try bridging the switch just to check. This might be a silly question but does the engine have to be running for the light to come on?

The ignition does need to be on to test them.

A '94 should definitely have a power timer plug, is your reverse gear below fifth or is it by first with a lift up collar? It should be the former but your gearbox might have been swapped.

Here's the bulb holder and its plug.

The gearbox is definitely a BE3 with reverse below fifth. Is the plug in the picture above a specific peugeot part? and where is the switch located on the gearbox?

Sorry, I was thinking of the plug that goes onto the switch on the gearbox rather than the bulb for some reason. The plug on the bulb holder is a Peugeot specific connector, the thread I linked to before has the part numbers etc.

The switch on the gearbox in your case should definitely be a power timer plug and is fairly easy to see from above.

excellent, thanks. I got a replacement plug from a scrap yard today and that has sorted the problem. The connectors on the old plug were entirely rust.
