So today I managed to release the rear axle from my 205 along with cutting off the past it brake lines and also dis mounting the petrol tank complete with 20L of shell's finest grrrr.

 

However can someone tell me what the designers were thinking when they attached that brace bit to the middle that links up to the petrol tank strap I mean really what is it and can I leave it off when I rebuild it.

You can leave it off but I don't understand why your tank dropped out?

Ah yes sorry should have elaborated, Im in the process of stripping the whole car down and today got the axle and tank off.
