why not bin the lot and fit a 106 gti rad.

this is what i have done on my 205 rallye 16v, with a bit of modification to the lower rad fan shroud the 106 gti rad fits nicely and as it has a expansion tank on the side of it ( witch conveniently just pokes out of the hole on the slam panel) so you can also ditch the 205 expansion bottle.

I recall 106 hoses being a smaller diameter than 205 ones.

The point of the expansion bottle is the water level inside it when at the minimum mark is higher than the highest point in the cylinder head water chamber. The slam panel is considerably lower so having an expansion chamber poking out the hole, even if full to the cap I cant see it completely filling the head on an xu, tu maybe.

i had a problem with the 16v cooling correctly in the 205, the stop light would come on randomly and the pipes would never get hot in the right places, there was always air in the system and woudnt bleed out, since fitting the 106 gti rad everything works perfectly
