3 Piece Exhaust Systems - When Do They Become Restrictive?

Recommended Posts

Stu

Hi all,

Im looking at options regarding systems, currently im looking for a quieter system than is currently fitted so im looking at getting a standard center section and coupling this with my modified downpipe and s/s backbox...

However. In the not too distant future ill have my 2048cc/petert build finished so dont want to buy a system now that will become restrictive on the new engine.

Any thoughts? Will a stock 3 piece system limit the power potential of the lump? It'll be on standard management (maybe mapped) so nothing too radical....

get the later one and lop off the downpipe would be the easiest option.

I think the 2 piece system is the one to go for.

I've considered this, but then what happens with mating it to the down pipe? There obviously wont be a sleeve, and at the back end after cutting the olive off im fairly sure my existing back box wont mate to the system owing to the difference in OD/ID.

Right, i bit the bullet the weekend and managed to source a P2 front/centre pipe so ill be running that, the bore size swayed me over in the end, despite needing to re-angle the front flange. Again. :P

Now, almost back to my original question, at what point does a full P2 system become restrictive?

Im thinking now of getting a standard back box to compliment the new system, but not if it will be at the expense of power long term.

the other option is to cut the flange of the back end, clean up my ss magnex back box and use that, but the focus of the car now is to make it a 'nice' useable car... and hence quiet ;)

Thoughts? I suppose im looking for someone to tell me they ran a 180bhp '6 engined 205 back to back on the rollers with a standard vs. 'performance' system and there was no difference in power output :P

if you have an already converted downpipe you can lop off the pipw on the new front section and clamp it up, might need to add a sleeve.

Maybe so

Something like this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Exhaust-Adapter-Connector-Sleeve-Joiner-Clamp-on-Clamps-/220783509427, though I would weld the one side so you only have one joint.

As for specifics, the Phase 2 system is no smaller than a Magnex IIRC.
