Separating Driving Lamps And Removing Bodykit

Recommended Posts

pugsley

Hi all,

I have tried searching but didn't have great joy. Couple of questions if people would be so kind?

  • My front driving lamps/fogs are full of pond water and i would like to clean them out. What's the best way of breaking the bond so i can separate them? Oven?

  • I need to remove the NSF wing. What's the best way of removing the bodykit trim? Reason i asked is i know some kits need a special tool to prevent breaking the holding clips.

Any help would be great. Thanks in advance.

John

The front arch trims are held on with a combination of barbed plastic plugs, and a few plastic plugs that are not barbed, but held on from behind the wing by those washers that have a sort of star shaped cut-out. The washers grip the plugs like s*it to a blanket.

My personal approach has always been as follows

1) Start by removing the small red strip. This is held in by two barbed plastic clips. You don't want to try and pull the red strip off by itself as you'll bend it. What you need to do is actually pull on the arch trim as this will pop the plastic clips out of the wing, separating both the arch trim and the red strip at the same time, without bending or breaking anything. So grab a hold of the short section of arch trim at it's end by the door, and carefully pull it away from the wing and angling it upwards a bit. It'll need a bit of force, so don't be shy, just try not to bend anything to the point of snapping it.

2) Get rid of all the crud inside the lip of the arch so you can see the plastic clips and identify the ones with the washers. From memory I think it's only the one clip at the 12 O'Clock position, and the one at the front bottom near the bumper. Once you've found them, try and prize off the washers first using a screw driver or similar. You actually can just "rip" the arch away and the force will pop the washers off, but it's a risky tactic, and I've snapped the plastic clip doing this before.

3) When you only have the normal barbed plastic clips left, it's just a case of forcefully but carefully pulling the arch trim away from the wing, as the clips give up easily enough.
