Oil Filter?

Recommended Posts

Ams

I just picked up an oil filter from Peugeot for a GTI6 engine but the parts guy was a little unsure of the type of filter as quite a few popped up. He asked about my engine and I stated it came from an T plate GTI6 registered on April 1999 but could not remember the full reg. So I provided an X reg number by googling on my phone. He provided the following filter for £4.80:

Is the pictured filter correct? I may have read wrong but according to this thread, http://www.306gti6.com/forum/showthread.php?id=126327 from 306gti forum suggests it's a "short interval" filter according to price, can anyone verify if it's correct or should I buy a more appropriate one?

looks fine.

As mentioned in that thread, the other filters are longer interval types used on newer engines.

Cheers Mei, I actually thought it was too cheap and may be the wrong filter for the engine, was concerned about filtration quality. What would the part number be for a long interval and do you know what the mileage difference is between the two types? The parts guy did not know such details.

From what I recall they moved from 6 to 10k mile intervals, by that point there were no 8 valve XU engines in use, and the TU's were slowly going to paper elements, June the 1st 1998 I think.

I would just change them at 6k with the oil, or yearly if you don't do that many miles.

Just had a look across servicebox, and you do have a longer interval type, the one specified for the 205 is 1109 AP, also specified for the earlier gti6 up to RP 07875, and 1109 AL from thereon.

Cheers for the clarification. I also found some more info on here http://www.306gti6.com/forum/showthread.php?id=60806&page=1 . According to a poster on there it seems the long interval filters from Pug/Citreon have a finer mesh which presumably results in better filtration. Odd that it's cheaper, literally the cheapest OEM filter I've ever bought for a car, though I just noticed the parts guy didn't include the sump washer. <_<

Miles

They even fit the later V6, Service is anything upto 18,000, Most 306's went to 12,000 miles thou but for the fleet market to keep the costs down and after 3 years it doesn;t matter if the engine goes pop, One reason why so many VAG TDI's wear out cams etc

They now use the same 1109AL on the new EB0 and EB2 petrol engines, which have a service interval of 20,000 miles....I'll still be changing mine at 6k though.
