Ready-Refurbished Rear Beam - Anyone Bought From Http://sspengineering

Recommended Posts

ATK

For my own piece of mind I'm looking to buy a ready-refurbished rear beam to get my local garage to swap it over.

Anyone bought from here?

http://sspengineering.co.uk/

£350 is something I would gladly pay rather than getting my existing one refurbished.

Any other parts I would need?

I got mine from there in Oct 2009 and has been absolutely fine.

I drove down there and got it fitted on site while I waited. They can swap over calipers / protectors / discs no problem...

Its painted plain hammerite black, so no fancy yellow tube with red bars if thats your thing...

Even back in 2009, it was still £350 (a touch over £400 with the VAT) so still great value.

I would recommend them.

So they fitted it aswell for £350 + vat??

ATK. If you want a fully powdercoated and rebuilt axle, I can supply.

Please see my for sale thread.

My next few axles I will be supplying with yellow tubes (unless you want brand new crosstube?)

£350 delivered seems like a great price for a nicely refurbished beam that's ready just to be swapped over!

I looked at this option, don't think it includes stub axles so you'd have to swap yours over.

Yeah thats right, had it fitted this week, had to use the old stub axles. No biggie. If anyone else is after a refurbed beam, can highly recommend SSP!

If so very interested.

Yeah just give them a ring with your requirements. They normally fit while you wait if you wish.

Great. My beam seems fine.

However, it has been lowered. I am looking to get it raised at some point.

I have often wondered once it raised, would it still be ok?

I.E would it show the symptoms.

iPlod999, I was in exactly the same position as you. My beam had been refurbed about 10 years ago and lowered at the same time. Was too low for me, was lowered about 45mm, way too low for my taste.

I had no creaks etc and beam seemed fine, so I toyed with the idea of just having the beam raised but a) I didn;t know if it had been done the proper way by dummy shock or whether it was on the splines and B) By raising the beam it might disturb things and the beam might have been useless after trying to raise it and I didn't want to be without the car

So I decided to go for a new beam via SSP.

When I telephoned they asked if I just wanted to come down and they would fit it while I waited. Bit far for me so had it delivered and my local guy fitted it.

Great service.

Yeah, general consensus seems to be if you start shifting an old beam about you could be opening a can of worms. Beam was £350+VAT if that helps, built and delivered in 2 days.

I'M STARTING TO GET A WEE BIT WORKED UP . I READ ALL THE POSTS ABOUT RE-FURBS AND RE-REALISE JUST HOW BIG THE DISADVANTAGE IS FOR US 205 GTI DRIVERS LIVING IN IRELAND . SURE THERE ARE PLENTY OF CAPABLE HANDS AND BRAINS BUT THE COST OF DELIVERY FOR ANY THING BIGGER THAN A SMALL PARCEL IS CRIPPLING .STANDARD SERVICE ITEMS AREN'T A PROBLEM , THEY ARE GENERALLY AVAILABLE AT MY LOCAL MOTOR FACTOR . THE CLOSEST POINT BETWEEN UK MAINLAND AND IRELAND IS 26 MILES. 26 WATERY MILES . SOMETIMES I LOOK AT THE MAP ON THE WALL AND HAVE TO SIT DOWN .THIS SITTING DOWN COSTS MONEY , CAFFINE AND NICOTINE ARENT CHEAP ! ON A SUNNY DAY I CAN SEE CARS ALONG THE WEST COAST OF SCOTLAND AND I OFTEN WONDER " IS THAT SOME DUDE OUT BEDDING IN A NEW SET OF DISCS AND PADS " . SO THE NEXT TIME YOU SEE A BIG CLOUD O SMOKE FLOATING ABOVE THE IRISH SEA SPARE A THOUGHT , BLIP THE THROTTLE , TOOT UR HORN ,FLASH YOUR BITS AND LET OUT A BIG ROAR FOR A WEE LION .! SLAINTE .

how about contacting someone on uk mainland about supplying a few refurbed axles.

It could be an option to then come over from Ireland in a big van, collect rebuilt axles and head back.

Surely that way, it would be minimal travel/collection cost, but you'd have quite a few nice new axles that you could then sell on to Irish 205 enthusiasts.

I agree, I'd form a list, see who's after one then, then have a day trip and go back with a van full. Even take spares as you know they'll always be wanted.
