Home Made Roll Cage

Recommended Posts

Looking for thoughts and advice here, thinking about a roll cage for my 205 road/track car, buy one or build one myself? I have a mig welder and quite competent at welding but is it worth the hassle? Looking at the forum, the likes of the SOS 205 roll cage is immense, but is this necessary? Unless I'm intending crashing at 120mph!! What a piece of art I must say and a life saver!!! Credit here as I was really impressed with this build. Any trackday 205 owners I would honestly like your thoughts and experiences on what type of cages you would recommend.

Pick up a second hand one, isn't worth the effort trying to make your own from scratch. Can add extra stuff in after if you so wish

For the best fit, a safety devices. Although will cost more than an OMP but a nicer cage.

Mine originated as an OMP now it's a serious jobbie!

Is there any one that makes cages on here at decent prices?

PhillipM has done a few installs, think he might have a tube bender nowadays too.

Depends what you call a "decent price" they just aren't cheap things especially if you want it made and fitted properly and for it to be effective.

Yeah I know its not cheap cheap but I mean cheaper than the likes of the safety devices larger cages etc. Aiming more towards a weld in kit

a CC basic cage is £570, or £1200 odd fitted by themselves, though personally if I was bothering I would go for the multipoint which is just about £800 for the kit.

the only cage I can find cheaper than that for a 205 is an omp or a sparco, but they're still in the mid 500's plus fitting.

You'll spend more time making the OMP cage fit than actually fitting it.

Yep, the last couple we've done have been our own design, got sick and tired of spending twice as long making off the shelf cages actually fit properly before you could even start welding it up.

Id weld it myself and yeah leaning away from omp as the one in the 306 was ok but the bars were a inch or so from the sides etc which took up a bit more space than hoped whereas my weld in cage had the bars right up against the pillars etc. Prob just keep a eye out for a big sd multipoint cage as not entirely against a bolt in just want it to fit nice
