Can Water Leak In Through The Inside Of The Doors?

Recommended Posts

ATK

Scuttle is clear, as are sunroof drains. Heater matrix is fine. Windscreen is fine.

I've noticed water along the seal along the bottom of the door, but the seal itself seems fine. So I'm wondering if its coming through the inside of the door, and over the top of the seal.

I was having a think, and my passenger rear speaker does not work, so I'm wondering whether water has got in THROUGH the inside of the door somehow?

Any thoughts chaps?

I doubt it is. Have you checked the drain holes in the doors though?

I found that mine was leaking from one of the rear quarter seals, down behind the rear panel, and then running down into the footwell.

What I did (perhaps not in the Haynes manual), is traced the leak with talcum powder. I removed the seats and then lifted the carpets on both sides of the central tunnel, and removed the sound deadening. If yours has a leak, you'll probably need to do this even if you stop the leak, as the sound deadening is like a sponge, and would take an age to dry once it's wet, as it doesnt get any air. Anyway, I dried the footwell puddle I had, and then sprinkled talc round each of the footwells (on the metal with the carpets lifted out of the way obviously!). Then jetwashed the car and looked for where the talc showed any runs. Then hoovered up the talc, fixed the leak, dried the sound deadening, and refitted the interior. Car completely dry, and smelling much better ;)

My guess is rear window seals. Remove the trim below and watch it leak in.

Mine did the same, the result being this:

Cover ing the holes in the doors sorted it and means water now escapes through the drain holes rather than into the car:

I think it was just some sort of impermeable packaging material something had arrived in. You can't see it so...

Yes, the white stuff used to wrap monitors and televisions is a pretty good for this, though anything waterproof would suffice.

I have tesco bags and dust sheets on mine!
