Hi Everyone, Anyone Wanna See My New Project?

Recommended Posts

pugpete1108

Been a while guys, I must admit after selling up I've had my head buried in the new project and haven't even thought about a 205.....:$

If anyone's interested I'll put a project thread up? Not sure what section it can go in?

I may have mentioned my ideas about this before. It's Japanese and it's engine rhymes with ankle, however it's on its way to being a 20v turbo...

VAG 1.8 Turbo I'm assuming?

Should be interesting - you doing all the work yourself or is there now an off the shelf conversion kit for these?

Getting rid of the engine out these is probably the best mod you can do. Interested to see what you do with it.

Had a mate that was the service manager at the local Mazda shop and they used to play "guess how many engines" every time an RX8 rolled up (usually on the back of a flat bed).

Bam 225 turbo yes with an evo 4 16g twin scroll blower.

And yeah everything is custom, only seen one completed and that was is Poland.

Reyland started one but don't think it's finished.

all that space and you chose a diddy 1.8, booo :(:P didn't realise how spacious width wise those bays were!

Haha, yeah it's plenty roomy.

Could have gone v8 but was trying to keep the 50/50 weight on the chassis hence why the engine is so far back. Had to chop masses out of the bulkhead. But it does sit behind the axle which is good

Weight wise the 20v is only a little bit heavier than the rotary.

I'll post a proper build thread up when I get home

interesting project, more images! so many of these for sale with busted engines. every time one of these comes in our bodyshop we put warnings on it not to start it or if we do let it run up to temp. so common for wetting plugs up and then becoming a non starter.....

Someone on one of the Volvo forums just posted yesterday that they've got a hold of an FD3S and they're putting a T5 engine in. Thought you were the same person for a moment when I read the OP.

Al, don't forget the RX8 motor is a version of the 13b, our car is running a RX7FD 13b motor. The 20v is a great motor, be interested to know how heavy it is. Cheers martin

It will.be a road car yes.... Eventually.

Going to track it a while to iron out the niggles then build a forged ( just add h beam rods) engine to swap it out with.

So full interior is staying, including the bose sounds

my mate is trying to put a diesel engine into one of these, think there is a compny that do the conversions on them with the 20v turbo engine

Reyland make an adaptor plate and flywheel to suit but I don't think there is a complete kit anywhere?

Gotta fab mounts, steering rack, bulkhead all plumbing, custom turbo manifold etc etc

What you doing with the rack Pete?

Standard ones a ballache, I had the ridiculous fantasy of putting a variable power supply to it and use it like that..... But it's a lot cleverer than that, it's a screw affair rather than rack and pinion and has an ecu and various sensors which we haven't got (or want).

We put power to it the other week via the two heavy cables, it turned left like hell and nearly ripped martins arms clean off! :P

Why you want it?

Yeah I know it's ecu.controlled and even tho I'm keeping the main ecu to run the dash I didn't want the hassle with the steering given a std pas tack will do just fine with no complications.

I'm custom building the subframe anyway to clear the front pulley so adding an different rack will be no bother.

Couple of cheeky manifold shots.

Needs a good tidy up and the turbine flange needs finishing but you get the idea.

Cos it's there! :P without realising it was so complex we made a complete custom steering column to clear the manifold aswell as raising the rack slightly and correcting the arm angle for the lowered ride height.

We're waiting to hear back about a control unit for it, I'm not holding my breath though.

Are you using the Mazda box then and keeping the 'spine' to the diff?

Your engine looks nice and low, a lot of the conversions (especially v8s) seem to sit really high up to clear the standard subframe. You're certainly going the right way about it :)

It sits bang in line with the prop and brace, could do with being a tad lower but hey ho.

I'm still figuring out the clutch combo but the plan is to use the audi flywheel (either the dmf or a corrado g60 solid one) with an rx8 clutch pressure plate/friction plate.that way I can use an audi starter.the 15mm adaptor plate looks to bring the box out enough for it to work.

I'm also thinking by using a slimmer rack I can keep the geometry in tact
