Xud Conversion Gear Linkages

Recommended Posts

I have put a 306 xud engine into my 205 diesel and had a quick question about the gear linkages. As it stands the linkage touches the down pipe in 1st and 2nd but that's ok as I'll be getting a custom exhaust made up which will be further away from the linkages. The problem I am having is noticing that it looks like the linkage ths t sits on top of the subframe that swivels could be fouling on the turbo down pipe.

The car is quite hard to get into reverse and sometimes does not want to stay in it. I saw when I replaced the subframe for my mot that there are two holes in which this linkage could fit into on the subframe (the pivot linkage in question is the one with the r clip on it) currently it sits in the hole closest to the turbo as it was before I changed it.

I was wondering could I move it to the next hole along to gain an extra 3cm or so of clearance? I didn't try this as I was in a hurry before. Has anyone else come up with any problems like this on this swap before?

Any help welcome and sorry about the essay!

Many thanks

Chris

Did you fit the 205 top lever arm on the gearbox?

Thats all you need to do, there is no difference fir turbo models, the manifold, turbo and elbow are the same as the 306, so as long as you have a 205 turbo downpipe it should clear fine.

I'm still using the 205 box, I bought a 306 down pipe that's why it catches on the exhaust but it only cost me 15 pound and is temporary. I'll see how it is after I get a new exhaust fabbed up but from what I could see it looked like reverse touched the turbo elbow, I'll double check.

Just to quickly pick your brain again welshpug :P if I retain the 205 box what is the best clutch and flywheel combination to use as at the moment it's all 205 gear including the flywheel on the 306 engine. I know it's not going to hold long when I turn up the boost and fuel. Would a paddle clutch be a bit overkill for 130 ish horse on there? Plus whatever torque it will make.

Thanks.

I 're checked my linkages again today and in first, the long link under the car touches on the exhaust but this is no biggie as I'll get a proper one made up. In second, fourth and reverse the pivot linkage that sits on top of the subframe touches on the turbo elbow. I'm still running the standard 205 diesel box and linkage set up. Reverse is really hard to get into and can pop out of gear (not a massive issue).

Any suggestions on what I might be able to do as I'm stumped :z are there any quick shift kits or new linkages for the base line diesel available anyway because the change has always felt not too positive with a very long throw and the only kits I can find are for the gti.

Cheers

Chris
