Not A 205 But Close, 309 Ma Box

Recommended Posts

So the later phase 2 309' were fitted with the tu3 mono point engine and according to the Haynes was fitted with the MA gearbox.

Does anyone now whether this box had a different casing to other MA's or was the battery tray/gearbox mount in a different location to those fitted with the be gearboxes? again not really much in the Haynes to help out.

I would post in the 309 forum but there is only really me and 4 others that use it.

Looks the same as a 205 tu as far as I can see mate.

At a guess it's the same, the gearbox mount never moves on a 205 between the be and ma box so can't see why it would on a 309.

Yea straight in, I've looking into it before, using a be box is also very doable!! I worked it out before, base model hubs, with 1.6 gti hub inserts in the wheel bearings would allow you to have 1.6 gti shafts, be box and tu5.. Just the linkages and bracket on the subframe needed. Some one more knowledgable may be able to confirm this?

You would need a be4 box to fit up to the tu though. I'm just putting the theory together in my mind for the conversion on my 309 maybe in the summer if I don't get rid. Someone did it a few years a go on the 309 forum but he did a lot of messing around with the mount side of things and shafts instead of going what was available from factory, plus it was on the old forum and has been lost when we moved over. 1600 shafts fit into base model hubs no problems but 1600 309's are like hens teeth and again only for be boxes. So hoping to use a whole jp4 with gti ma box from a 106 its an easy conversion to do just wanted to confirm on the 309 gearbox mount
