Which Plug Leads....for Ford Dis Coil Pack?

Recommended Posts

ftoomsh

I have searched the forum for the best plug leads to use for a ford dis wasted spark coil pack, which i will be using on my throttle body converted xu9j4 d6c engine and came to the conclusion from the posts, that Corsa 1.6 16v items were the way forward.

Having sourced a set, the leads are of a perfect length and also fit under the plug lead cover. great news!! However they dont seem to fit onto the coil pack and the outer rubber gaiter / seals do not seal against the coil pack posts??

they are off a '97 1.6 16v corsa.

any ideas gents??

As above - use an early-mid 90's 8v XU/TU type wasted-spark coil.

The terminals on a Ford coil are quite different and you'd need to use a Ford HT lead of sorts to suit it.

I was hoping not to have to do that. But it will get me going.

Would escort cosworth leads do the trick??

I think I used fiesta leads. With a little mod to the plug end.

Just buy new ends off ebay and fit them to your new leads.

I think I used fiesta leads. With a little mod to the plug end.

Got a fiesta lead and "modded" the plug end and it still for some reason will not plug onto the spark plug. They are also too short.

I have successfully used plug leads from the 2.0 8v engine (306 XSi or 406 2.0turbo) on an Mi16 using the coilpack mentioned.

It's an easy job to convert the wiring, go to Polevolt or Vehicle Wiring Products and order a 4 pin junior power timer plug boot and pins, crimp them on, done.

Do you mean the ford coil pack or 8v xu coil pack ?

Was thinking of swapping the plug to suit the xu pack but the ford pack is 3 pin and the xu is 4 I think (need to speak to omex on that one probably)

Thanks Tom

The XU coil pack.

There are four pins but if you test with a meter you will find two of them are linked internally. The XU coil will work exactly the same as the Ford and only needs 3 wires to it.

Excellent.

So I might only need to replace the plug. Just need to make sure the ends go in the new plug in the correct holes!!

Thanks again Tom.

4 pin mini timer plug purchased and fitted last night.

so will now use xu coil pack, i now assume that the corsa 1.6 16v leads will fit with no issues.
