Os Driveshaft Query

Fitted 16v engine last night for 2nd time, got the nack now.

When I took the 8v out, I only released wishbone. After a bit of wrestling, I ended up removing the 4 bolts holding the bottom mount on, and chapped and pushed mount until shaft came out diff.

So as it stands the full mount is still on shaft.

Should I chap again to work this mount off the diff side of shaft? Or is there a better way? I don't fancy putting a gas torch on to it.

TIA

Silly question I'm sure have you undone the 2 11mm nuts that lock the bearing into the mount?

Sounds like the shaft bearing needs some gentle persuasion to come out of the engine mount?.

A suitable drift or punch located from the gearbox side on the outer bearing race with a hammer should do the trick!

Before you put it back in clean any surface rust off the intermediate bearing outer housing using sandpaper and apply some copper grease which will ensure you wont have the same problem in future if you need to remove it.

Thanks luggy, but will that not send the mount the wrong way?

or is that just to unseize it and i then send it back towards gearbox side?

That's how Id do it with the mount still on the engine.

You can tap the mount off toward the gearbox side of the drive shaft, making sure that the retaining lugs which the 11mm nuts control are free of the drive shaft.
