205 1.9 Be1 Linkage On Gti6 With Xsara Box

Recommended Posts

Hi. Firstly Thanks to all on here for all the information on performing the GTI6 swap. I'm almost done with mine having followed one of the guides. I'm using a xsara box. Almost all of it has gone without a hitch.

I'm sure I read that if the cat had a be1 gearbox I need a be3 (reverse below 5th) gear stick and linkage. Is that purely because there's no need for the lift up reverse or is the geometry of the linkage different? My be1 linkage connects up but I can only get 5th and reverse. The stick won't push over to the left. Sorry if this had been covered but I couldn't find this specific problem when I searched.

Thanks in advance.

Be1 and be3 linkages are the same.

If you have swapped the top lever arm on the gearbox that sounds like your problem, probably dropped down when you removed the xsara arm and not engaged properly when lifted back up.

Obviously as a be3 box you dont need the reverse stop cable, you havent fitted that right?...

Take the rods off of the gearbox entirely and put it in gear manually, if you can select all the gears that way it is a linkage problem, if not it is a gearbox problem. TBH it sounds like the lever swapping issue Welshpug described.

I've swapped the arm from my be1 yes. Is it easy enough to pull back up? I read about that issue So tried to Pull It up. But it only seems to have 2-3mm of travel.

you need to remove the lever, push it down, rotate it a bit then pull it back up.

Well. I'm a wally. I'd stuck the bloody reverse cable in the spare hole in the xsara box. Unsurprisingly I now have 5 gears and a reverse! Thanks for your help and patience guys! Much appreciated
