307 1600 16V Into A 205 Gti

Hi. I have a 205 1.6 gti rally car 8v. Which is now very tired. I have just purchased a 307 1600 16v engine cheap. Was wondering if anyone on here can tell me exactly what I'll need to get and do to make it work ie. will the wiring be ok with a dizzy adapter plate ?? Will my 205 box fit ?? Some help and advise will be greatly appreciated thanks.

use the gearbox the engine was bolted to, most were BE4 boxes unless its an early car, it wont fit onto a 205 gti gearbox.

 

you'll need an aftermarket ecu, or you can run a single plug saxo/106 ecu and inlet manifold (307 is FBW)

 

thankfully, there is nowhere on the engine you can fit a dizzy.

get an MA gearbox,the 106 gti gearbox is a good all rounder

youll need to fit the 106 gti cams and pulleys if wanting any decent power and also the 106 gti ecu and loom

I have an inlet manifold, throttle body, 106 gti ecu ( suposidly chipped and unlocked, was in a base spec 106 before that was very quick so guess so, can confirm with the boy who built it)and loom just missing the cps sensor and a bit of the loom past the plug I needed i can do cheap if needed

Its going into a rally car, IME it will die a horrible death very shortly, even on a standard motor, its just not up to it.

 

hydraulicness is not an issue whatsoever, there is a standard factory off the shelf cable clutch release arm that can be fitted and a Berlingo clutch cable that'll fit a post 1990 pedal box anyway.

The Ma box isnt as brittle as everyone make it out to be, some people are running over 300bhp in 106 gtis on the MA box, its usually the plannet gears that are the weakest point ut with that amount of power people usually fit a LSD so there not a problem,.

ive rebuilt many MA gearboxes over the years and its usually only the plannet gears that suffer.

my box i rebuilt about 3 years with fresh bearings ect, it does get some abuse and has had a couple of track days through it, had no problem at all, i know its no motorsport car but still.

personal preference i suppose

so just to clarify. i can get any be4 box ? and just get the cable adapter ?. what about my 1.9 drive shafts will they still fit the box or will i need to modify anything. and also the gear change rods are they the same . thanks in advance. im gonna make a start on it soon .

i have also heard that there is a gear box out there . which is a be4 bell housing with a be3 box . possibly xsara piccaso. but i dont have a code. and i cant find any on e bay

Theres dozens of be4 boxes, but if you want to bolt it to your tu engine you need one with the correct bellhousing, and to get the matching intermediate bearing carrier.

Hi welsh. I've got my self a xsara gear box which fits my engine. But my 19 gti drive shafts won't go in the box. Any ideas. Do I need new bearings ?? Or have I got the wrong box maybe

xsara never had a TU-BE box.

if its a TU-BE box yes.

you need be4 box from a xsara piccaso 1.6 8v. these fit the tu engine but you can use drive shafts from a 306 gti/xsi or 205 1.9 gti. Im not sure exactly which shafts are the correct lengh, im yet to measure mine up.

You'd use 205 gti shafts on a tu-be box surely
