Burning Wiring

Recommended Posts

Please someone help me.

I am currently putting a rally center dash in my road rally car, and come around a load of burnt wires. i have looked into it and i see them melting when i turn the side lights on. it was blowing the fuse, but i over road it and then the wires started to melt.

It is the wire from the stick to to the board, white in color, but also, a lot of green earth wires have melted to.

Please help, as the first rally is only in a couple of weeks.

i can put pictures up if you would like.

You started with either a huge overload or a short circuit and the fuse blew to protect the wiring. Now you've bypassed the fuse the wires acted as a fuse instead and melted so before you can work out what the initial problem was you'll have to replace all the melted wiring.

And possibly ruined the fusebox too in the process, maybe better to get a new job lot.

I've put the fuse on the dash. But i found what it was, the live wire from the stick to the box had rubbed through.

Not a good idea bypassing the fuse.

The fuse isn't there to be a nuisance it protects the wiring and components from higher currents.

You'll end up with a fire if you're not careful.
