'6 Battery Box - How Have You Mounted Yours?

Recommended Posts

Stu

Just had a quick look at how folks have mounted their GTI6 battery box's and it seems in every eventuality you need to remove the tapped 'post' from the 205 tray, is this right?

I removed the 'post' and then drilled the appropriate holes into the battery tray to bolt the box down.

Access is restrictive once you've placed the box in, so I used some nuts with built in washers. Popped them on to a ring spanner, fed underneath and when lined up put a bolt through.

I initially had intended to use the square 306 mounting bracket - but that results in the battery box sitting too high and your bonnet doesn't shut. I did not do this

Rivnuts are the answer :)

combo of both of the above. removed original 205 post and set 2 rivnuts in mine. which ever position suits you as you have some movement front to back. been fine for ages now.

Cheers all, thats what i did in the end :)

Drilled the spot welds out on the post and removed that, managed to position it and get three rivnuts in on a decent area of the tray so i think it should be ok..

Balancing act between the header tank and the air filter hose innit? ;)

There was one threaded hole in my tray I used, then Drilled another in a more accessible place, used load spreading washers with lump being thrown around in a plastic box!

After reading this thread i removed the post prior to powder coating my batt tray..... (engine with inlet still to be fitted permanently)

Has anyone got a good pic (Ph1 or 1.5), or could take a pic for me, showing where the batt box has to sit to allow enough space for a straight out induction kit... and maybe give me the distance from the bulhhead to batt box?

(i'm thinking i could pre-drill my batt tray and box, fit bolts and nuts to the tray, then another nut inside the batt box, (and chop the bolts flush when i'm ready).

TIA

Fit the induction kit you are using and then see where the box needs to end up.

For reference I had a 306 sized K&N straight off the inlet on a silicone hose a couple of inches long. The battery box needed to be quite tight towards the header tank for it to clear - and I still needed to cut the battery box air duct flange thing off.

Thanks, but by then the battery tray is fitted..... i was hoping to have it all planned prior to fitting engine/battery tray.

When you say tight to the header tank,... what like 5mm gap or something?

Thanks for the comments, I did have too cut a very small piece from the bonnet frame to clear the top of the battery box, it just touches.
