Phase 2 Rear Lights On Phase 1,5 Car?

Hi. I have a 1990 1,9 GTI(ph.1,5?) with the phase 1 rear lights, and I am thinking about replacing them with the newer phase 2 lights. Do you guys know if they will fit strait on, or do I need to find my soldering iron?

The wiring is different between the earlier and later lights so it's not a straight swap. Easy enough to adapt if you're competent with auto electrics though.

 

Remember that the reverse light is in the rear valance on a Phase 2 so you'll need that too, along with the wiring for it.
