Like Everyone Else It Seems... Where Is J364 Lly These Days?

Wiggs

Been a long time since I posted on here. Back in the day I used to be here every single day without fail!

I'm still a Peugeot 205 GTI owner, my Turbo Technics converted track-toy was on the road for a couple of years before going back into the garage. Something dropped off every time it was driven, haha, don't you just love Peugeots?!

My first 205 GTI was a black, non-sunroof 1.9 GTI which I had to sell due to having far too many cars and like most of us we'd love to know where it is now. I've checked J364 LLY on the DVLA website and it is still about, likely tucked up in a garage as it's SORN. It was sold to a member on here, although the name escapes me at the moment.

For those who may search, I can give a bit of history on a few other 205 GTI's;

E444 MSG - A red, non-sunroof 205 1.9 GTI with Turbo Technics conversion from new, it was scrapped due to a very rotten shell. It was a 1988 car, I believe before they were galvanised. The engine however lives on.

F518 XEP - Oddly it's still showing on the DVLA website, but unlicensed. This car, a grey non-sunroofed 1.9 GTI tried to kill me on the drive home from purchasing it. I'd paid a mere £250 for it and only wanted it for the shell to put the Turbo Technics engine into. Sadly it never made it back home in one piece and was later scrapped. This is another engine that I've still got however, although it'd need a complete rebuild to be useful, rings were shot!

G855 GUH - A grey, non-sunroof 1.6 GTI originally. This was purchased by me as a rolling shell. Heavily modified with Peugeot Sport coilovers, Wilwood 4-pot front brakes and respective twin cylinders, pedal box, bias valve, roll cage, re-routed fuel and brake lines, aftermarket gauges, bucket seats, harnesses, no heater and a very stripped interior. I still have this car, it now has my Turbo Technics engine fitted, with Emerald M3D, BE3 gearbox and Quaife differential.

I don't have your old car but I do have a black J plate non sunroof 1.9 GTI that was bought off a member on here so I did check the plate.

It has been resprayed silver and has an H prefix personalised plate on it now but I checked the original plate. I thought I'd mention it as it shows that old 205s might still exist but their number plate and colour might not be the same.

Thanks for the reply. :) An old name I recognise from here!

That's a good point. Although if you change a plate, surely the car would end up no longer being listed on the DVLA website under that registration?

If my memory serves me right, I think it went off to Derby, I'll have to do some digging see if I can find the person who bought it from me, but of course it could have changed hands a lot since then! It was back in 2005!

Yes that's true. I just looked up my cars old plate out of interest and it is not associated with a vehicle any more. I suppose the one possible exception is if the plate has been reissued to another car but that would be pretty obvious.

When I put a personal plate on my car the dvla said I got to keep the old plate. Useful I guess if I ever wanted to take the plate off the car.

I contacted them about my cars old plate and they were non committal about whether I would get the old plate back or a new random one. I don't want the private plate that is on it and it has the old one etched on the glass so it would be good to get it back.

The vehicle will generally be assigned the previous number but this cannot be guaranteed until an application is made. If it is not possible to return the previous number it would be issued with a new age-related number.

Get it back on the road Daniel as it has languished too long in the garage! There were quite a few J*** LLY GTIs as they keep popping up over time

I have a private plate issued by the DVLA.

Currently have it on retention as it's an 'S' reg. It's too new to go on the 205.

When I took it off my XTrail the DVLA issued the original '54' plate back on the Nissan.

It may be worth enquiring down that route.

I did enquire and the quote above is their reply, I should get it back but it isn't guaranteed.

I'm worried that I would end up with a bad plate if the cars old one has been reissued, I think they have plates they avoid issuing to new cars due to unfortunate combinations of letters that are then used in cases like this if the original plate is unavailable. The last time I bought a car with a personal plate the seller wanted to keep it so I viewed the car with one plate but when I picked it up it had BJ02 LSD on it.

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but I reckon you might have my old car (J364 LLY)!! I bought it off Wiggs and took it to Derby... I did the Mi conversion with the help of CRF450 and this is the engine with the 8v rods in it (big thread about oil starvation) it also had a 309 beam on it. I've been trying to trace it for a while, the last I saw of it, it was stripped and matt blacked, with a cage and buckets in. I then lost track and started a thread on here looking for it (just being nosey!!)

The bit about being stipped and matt black usually indicates it is one step towards *** 205 GTI Braking 4 Sparez RARE BARN FIND NOT DIMMA *** :(

It says it's SORN at the mo'. I sold it to a mate called Andy Harvey who took it to Spa and spun a shell (Cool ending for it!!) then it was sold to another lad in Belper who got it up and running... I lost track after that, but yes, it could well be being broken.

Somehow I'd missed these replies, thanks Nick! It seems to have changed hands a few times, found this post (I didn't find this before despite doing a search); http://forum.205gtidrivers.com/index.php?showtopic=140621

It got an Mi16 engine in it, something that I always intended to fit back then, before deciding to go the turbo route with another 205. The old 8v in it needed the valve stem oil seals sorting back then.

Poor car being resprayed matt black though, the bodywork wasn't bad when I had it, just a few minor dents on the bonnet as the thing was a nightmare to shut.

Oh and Henry, the 205 turbo was almost on the road, it failed it's MOT on a few things that had seized up with all the standing it'd done. Has been worked on and is almost ready for MOT attempt number two.

Almost on the road?! I'll believe it when I see it with that car... although there's always hope I guess given that even Higgsy's 205 Turbo (briefly) made it back on the road :P

Oy, I'll have you know I did more than 500 miles in Higgsys turbo. Shame he cannot say the same thing :blink::blink::blink::blink:

J364 LLY was last MOT'd in 2012 at 157k miles (MOT expired just over 2 years ago...Oct 2013).

Hi , sorry for late reply, I did own it but sold it on as it kept eating ignition modules for breakfast, only drove it home and never had it on road or track.

It ran fine when it started but the chap that bought it off me said it needed a complete rewire, which I know nothing about.

But I've got another much better one now!!!
