Phase 1? Gti6 Conversion

Recommended Posts

Well before I'm embark on making a hash of my conversion I though I'd ask the people who know.

I was under the belief my 88 1.9 205 was a phase 1.5 as it has the later style dash however when checking the wiring today it lacks the brown plugs on the right hand side. Now I found plenty of info for converting the phase 1.5/2 looms and I have a complete spare loom at my disposal. Would I be better off converting the complete loom to the later 1.5 than sticking with what I believe is the earlier wiring? Also I'm planning on using the gti6 box what's the simplest way of going about this? I have a complete gti6 donor car the 205 has a be1 box It does look to have a different clutch cable set up to the later be3 boxes I've worked on but still looks to be a push type clutch?

Any advise or options on the best way about this is much appreciated and please excuse the long winded post :)

Thanks

Nothing wrong with the earlier wiring, easier to convert if anything.

I was hoping to be able to be able to make the gti6 loom up with to 2 brown plugs I have to just "plug and play"

Is it likely someone's converted it to a later dash? The main engine loom does come through the drivers footwell I thought on phase 1 it came through n/s?? My main concern wasn't the fact it could be phase 1 more that if it's been messed about with which I suspect it has the I know where I am with the later loom?

Sure the plugs aren't there? This may sound stupid but when i converted my ph1.5 (F-plate) the brown plugs were far up behind the dash out of view and took some rooting out whereas the ph2 i converted had them much lower and easy to access in the footwell.

As its an 88 car it may only have the single 5 slot brown plug, as i posted in the other thread.

You are indeed correct WP I suppose I can't get away with being lazy and going off others pics/experience ;) I had already read through the gti6 wiring conversion advice that's pinned but the later comments weren't there when I last read it. And I made the mother of all ..... And assumed it was phase 1.5.

What would you advise about using the 6box?

It is phase 1.5 if its 88, gti6 box, nicd ratios, crap rh lock, personal thing, if you can cope, go for it.

Ok assumed the later style with the 2 brown plugs(phase2?) the lock isn't the best in the 306 anyway so I'm sure I'll live with the downfalls. If you don't mind can I pick your brains how you'd go about fitting it? ie drive shafts, linkage and clutch cable? Come to think of it while your at it if you could fit it as well ;) lol

Oh and I don't mean how do you remove and refit just what parts work the best with what I have at my disposal

Wiring wise just use the Autodata info, Much easier than page after page of info. Lock wise is a complete joke around town and in car parks, even normal right hand turns can turn into a 3 point turn it's that bad

Thanks miles I was adamant with the 6box think I will stick with the 1.9 box for time being. Am I correct in thinking it'll be the mi16 pull type clutch?

if you want to use the 205 box you need the standard 1.9 16v clutch which is a push type, not the 2.0 pull type.
