[Misc_Work] Saved From The Scrap Yard

A mate if mine told me about a 309 gti that he was buying it from a local scrapyard. I didn't believe it but when I went over to his garage, there it was. After some negotiations I done a deal with him and half in for it with a mate.

 

It's a 309 goodwood gti, k reg, 97k in the clock. Last taxed in 04. It's in not too bad condition for its age. With a bit of tlc hopefully it will be mint again.

Certainly agree but they drive fantastically well. It's a real shame.

Plans are just to keep it original and tidy as possible with painting it. Not in any rush tho as we have still to finish our 205's before anything happens to the 309. The person who scrapped it took the steering wheel and gear knob back off of it for some strange reason.

I can't believe why people take these cars to the scrapyard. Surely they must do some research to find out if anybody wants them. It doesn't look bad at all in that picture. I know it's hard to tell condition from a picture but I can see it's not a wreck.

It could be something simple like the owner had died (possibly while in the car, causing him to empty his bladder and bowels over the seats) and his wife scrapped it as she didn't know what it's worth.

I also wondered the same, why would you scrap something like this! Some people must just not know what they have I think. On a plus note I've got the guys address off of the log book so I might go to his house and see if he still has the steering wheel and gear knob, and if he wants to sell them. Got a couple of pics of it yesterday. Will get some more once it's had a wash and I'll see how it comes up.

Looks good, shame about the gear knob and steering wheel. Not sure about the M3 mirrors.

 

The rear looks too low compared to the front.

 

Crazy that was going to be scrapped. Lovely leather too.

Yeah as said in my post with the pictures. The owner who scrapped it kept the gear knob and steering wheel. I'm going to ask him of he wants to sell it.

 

Yeah as mentioned before the rear has been lowered, the front hasn't. The old owner also kept the lowering springs he had for it. As they were still in the boot when it's was scrapped.

 

*EDIT* the original mirrors are also in the car

The wooden wheel and knob were options, not every goodwood had them.
