Bumper Insert Colour?

Recommended Posts

ginger205

In my quest to unmodify my pug I'm now faced with the task of getting rid if the chrome bumper inserts, given red inserts fall into the "Rare Dimma" section on eBay I'm thinkin spraying my chrome ones may be the best way forward!

Anyone got any recommendations for a decent colour match? I was thinking PlastiKote Matt red may not be too far off...

Or anyone want a straight swap ;)

I think I used a VXR red spray can from Halfords which came up quite nice.

not sure of the colour but they look more like a satin finish to me

Can't advise on the paint match but I know that Farmer mentioned in another topic that he has the correct paintcode. Buy I was going to say it's probably best to spray all the trims at the same time so you get a match, regardless of whether it's the correct shade or not.

They aren't satin as such, they just look like it as they aren't well finished from the factory. They have a sort of orange peeley unpolished finish.

Are you sure yours haven't been repainted? I have recently bought new trims on mine, and there is no orange peel on them, they feel smooth with a slight satin/matt coarseness to the paint. Not best described, but I wouldnt say they are glossy but orange peely. As mentioned, it might be worth asking Farmer for the paint code, failing that, any decent paint supplier will be to match the paint, if you can get your hands on a original/sample bit.

I will need to see where it is been looking for the receipt, may have to go down to the garage again and get them to tell me again.

Cheers all!

I'm not too fussy about an exact match but I'll check with Farmer just in case, I'll be doing the whole lot in one go, there would be a lot of waste doing one at a time and I have space to lay them all out.

I seem to remember my original ones were a bit orange peelish that's why I thought a Matt would work but I can live with a slight change in texture as long as they are all the same colour and as close as I can get to the original, it's never going to be concourse :)

Maybe "orange peeley" is a bit misleading then. The set I refer to was a brand new OE set in Peugeot packaging. OK, so they didn;t have orange peel in the literal sense, but they weren't a nice smooth polished finish. It's the sort of finish you'd get straight from a rattle can with no cutting back afterwards.

there's a code on servicebox.

its FJQ.

I think the finish is more of a satin rather than gloss.

Just wrap them in red vinyl. You can get the colour much closer, the same sort or sheen to the finish, no prep, if you make a mess of them you can peel it off, easy to overlap underneath etc.

I did some 205 XS front chrome ones years ago in black electrical tape and they looked well. Actually some red electrical tapes also look the factory colour too, so you can do the lot for 50p!

That's a very good idea that and its not like red insulation tape will ever be NLA either

Technically you could fill in dents in bent ones too and then wrap them

Where does one buy the full unpainted/chrome strips? I can only find the front bumper chrome strip. I'm in the process of removing mines and I've already bent one slightly grr!

No probs if you bent yours, even slightly!

Mine copped a hammering, and were too expensive to buy from the UK.

The solution was simple, I bought a roller bearing with an 8mm face and turned the strips face down on a soft bit of pine wood, then rolled them back and forth increasing pressure unit all the dings and creases (97%) rolled out.

Works well!

Cheers
