Cable Retaining Clips/ Brake Hose Clips. Where To Buy?

Recommended Posts

johnnyboy666

does anybody know a place that sells these in various sizes in packs? the ones i'm after are ones like the top one in this pic, but I can only seem to find places selling individual ones for £5+ each and with no mention of size, which doesnt help when Im using them for something that isnt standard. If it helps, they will be for gear shift cables (but using a non- standard cable shift on a vehicle that already used cables) so searching for car-specific ones is no good either

alternatively, is there something I can replace these with that does the same job?

Cheers

John

Compatible with Subaru parts maybe?

Daihatsu have no connection to Subaru, they are part of Toyota now and have been connected to them for years.

Either way, the diesel hijet engine/gearbox is made by a company that make agricultural equipment and canal boat engines! Daihatsu don't really have an equivalent of service box, to check either which doesn't help.

Hence the need for some 'universal' ones.

Im suprised you cant buy them in a box of various sizes like you would with o-rings or washers

Look simple enough to just make one from a bit of steel and a die grinder/file etc?

I think that'll probably be what i end up doing. Would've thought these were more easily available, they must be used in a fair few cars

Daihatsu are not so much part of Toyota as being part owned by Toyota (a controlling share of 51%). Toyota also part own (20% I think) Fuji Heavy Industries who (100%) own Subaru. Toyotas controlling part in both parties dictates a shared parts bin on similar vehicles, mainly 4x4s. As UK breaker yards aren't exactly over flowing with Daihatsus it might be worth looking into the Subaru route. Lots more about and parts were indeed shared on some vehicles.

I'm not saying it will produce results but it's a connection that few are aware of.

I do recall making a clip very quickly for a V6, didn't last long as it was normal mild sheet, I guess you'd need some spring steel.

Just get to a breakers and have a poke about, never know you might find something.

I just googled it and Toyota own 16% of Fuji but only since 2008 so it depends when the OP's car was made. Prior to that there were connections between Fuji and Nissan and then GM which I didn't realise, I always thought they were independent.

I think it was October 2005 according to Bloomberg. GM parted just before this after 6 years of a crap relationship (which i have no recollection of). Maybe get the part off a Vectra or a 93 if it's older then?

Sorry, it's my job to throw mud at the wall in the hope something sticks. Most just slides down the wall and creates a pile of s*ite.

Would a suitable sized E clip do the trick? Is it clipping into a slot in a shaft?

Its technically just a re-badged piaggio. (even the VIIN plates say Piaggio on)

I did wonder about E-clips, but suspect they might ping off into the distance! Might give them a go though

Yes it clips into a slot at the end of the outer sheath of the cable (If that makes sense)

I'm thinking maybe a washer with the hole ground into a slot might do it
