Starter Motor - S16 Vs 1.9 8V Xu Compatibility?

Hiya .... Read through a number of threads on replacement starter motors. Was wondering if anyone can advise me if a 2.0 S16 starter motor would fit a standard 8v 1.9 XU9 205 gti motor without modification? Understand the solenoid for the S16 starters is located in a different location but not sure if that means the starter can't fit an 8v XU9 motor without modification?

 

Any advice appreciated.
