Anyone Know Anyone About This 205 Gti?

You want to have a good poke around and see whether areas were replaced and fabricated when it had the respray. It's no good if it was stripped down and any 'hidden' rotten areas were ignored, wiped down and just blown over and bumpers bodged back on. If there's comprehensive documentation to show it was lovingly restored to a decent standard then it's a different story.

Perhaps the price is a tad high - unless -

The engine has been rebuilt (or at the very least all engine ancillaries in excellent/immaculate condition).

The beam has been fully refurbished.

All running gear, gearbox, clutch, brakes etc are in perfect running order - esp: no synchromesh wear or clutch slippage.

But given the overall cosmetic condition - and if that is a *good* re-spray then that might be an appropriate price... with a bit of negotiation.

The passenger side door looks to have dropped, which is a bit odd.

I know of the guy who is selling this, it is one of his own cars which he is now looking to sell.

I called up there to have a look one morning but it is stored offsite, so I didn't get to have a look :-(

from what I recall the seats had been re trimmed, I was quite keen to speak to them and find out where he had sourced the material etc, I have just not got back in touch to see it.

It appears fairly tidy and apparently he has spent quite a lot of money on it!

I must get up there for a poke around!!

I wouldn't be so sure, looking at the drivers side squashed/worn bolster and corner of the centre piece on the passenger seat.

That has been for sale for about 4 years now as it used to come up on Autotrader all the time when I was looking as buying one. Same company and I am sure it is now £1000 more than it was then.

just to correct myself here, the red check material has been replaced, the bolster looks slightly squashed.

until you stand next to it you will never know for sure, I remember going to look at one advertised on Pistonheads the pics looked good, but when I saw it in the flesh it was a complete nail

I viewed this car on Christmas Eve (I am up in Scotland but was staying with family down that way) I met the owner of the car who is the owner of Bespoke and to be honest his knowledge of the car wasn't great. He didn't know if the beam had ever been done, when the cambelt was last changed and the engine hasn't been rebuilt. He didn't even know if the gearbox or clutch had been changed.

It is nowhere near as nice as it looks in the pics. There are a few scuffs and a small dent on the rear passenger quarter. The roof needed repainted as there was moisture in the lacquer. The back right alloy wheel doesn't sit nicely in the arch as you can see in the pics. The gaps just weren't right. The interior was excellent to be fair.

He told me that he had spent 8k on the car but I don't know where it was spent and there wasn't a full service history as stated. I would say it is worth about 3k.

Grille's been sprayed wrong too, Deffo lower on the front over std, Wrong spot lights, Rear wiper blade looks like its falling to bits, Good tyres and paint looks fair but as said with re-sprays these days I find allot after 12 to 24 months start to blister as Grant's said above

I think those pics were taken a while ago possibly even a few years ago when it was painted. The front tyres were on the minimum tread mark when I viewed it.

I wasn't going to buy it due to condition and disappointment so I didn't bother to drive it.

That disappointing huh! I was tempted to go see it, but instead picked up a steel grey 1991 1.9 GTI yesterday in Shewsbury. Hurrah!
