Rear Beam Refurb Places.

Recommended Posts

daza2020

Currently mulling my choices over with regards to my rear beam, car currently has 90 odd thousand miles on the clock and the beam looks like it's came from the factory and seems rather old and stiff.

Now the two choices I can see are one I tackle the job however I don't have all the tools and quite frankly doubt myself with it taking an engine apart I'll give a go but this rear axle just looks flat out hard.

Second which I seem more happy with is sourcing a refurbed one now I've had a look around and found a place that will do it for a not so silly price I was just wondering what peoples opinions are of certain places and there workmanship. I'm also aware forum members can do this but I've no idea who to approach and if they would require my current beam as I'm located on the isle of wight so not overly local.

Thanks in advance.

please see my for sale thread.

a fair few people off here have had axles off me, and sure they can give you some feedback.

i believe my axles to be excellent value considering genuine parts are used

Sounds like Miles at www.pugracing.com is your most local, however there are a few others like Tom and Jord who can do it but are further away. Don't assume that if you take the beam apart it will go back together easily. You could leave your car immobile, so you may need a plan B.

+1 they supplied my beam. Not fancy painted or anything but rebuilt well took out the bushes for me when I was fitting solid ones.

+1 for SSP Engineering. My refurbished beam was from them a few years ago. As said, not fancy painted but its been fine.

Any local garage would have enough tooling to sort it, though would be better if you take the beam to them rather than the car, save them having a ramp/lift tied up if it took longer.

Though tool wise you dont need anything particularly outside a normal collection other than a press if/when the arm shafts need doing, a worthwhile excuse to add to your skills and toolkit, i dont have my own press even as i use a friends a few doors up if he's about or another workshop group when i get chance.

You can cut down the costs massively if youre willing to get stuck in.
