Diesel Box Diff Seal

Recommended Posts

randomcaller

Hi there, after having my xud engine mated to my old 1.8d gearbox the diff seal has gone and emptied all my nice fresh gearbox oil onto the drive. I am going to get a new seal but does anyone know can the old one just be pulled out and the new one pushed in? or does it have to be done on a press like a wheel bearing? It might be worth noting that it's the off side and I didn't replace the two retaining pins that hold the shaft in near to the lower engine mount so that could have caused it because I can pull the shaft away from the diff and it still weeps slightly.

Another quick question what kind of gearbox is it? Is it the be3? Where reverse is behind 5th.

Many thanks

Chris

all the BE boxes use the same driveshaft seals, they can be tapped in gently with a hammer and a large socket.

indeed not fitting the driveshaft intermediate bearing retaining bolts will cause a leak if the shaft moves.
