right then,

my 306 rods turned up today.

they measure just under 370mm overall

and the business end of them..... Haha

looks like there should be enough should I need to trim them down a little.

to go inside the rose joint to accept an M12 bolt? yeah I guess so. What did Allan do on his bump steer kits.

Just thinking pete, theres no reason why it can't be part of the adaptor to fit the hub and lower the rose joint anyhow?

The original ones we did were a 1/2" joint with a 14x1.5 thread ;)

I can make a reducer into the extension and then a top hat washer for the other side or....

I can make m12 spacers and you can use the mcgill reducers, the later bring cheaper

ah ok, when looking I couldn't see 12mm joint with M14 thread.

either or I guess, something to worry about if it all goes to plan.

They were specially made joints with longer threads, they want 4 grand to make another batch :(

I've ordered some bits from McGill.

I'm thinking use their reducer, which gives more misalignment on the joint, then get Al to drill the hub parallel, make a top hat for both sides, then use shims inbetween the top hat and the misalignment spacer to suit the ride height. I mess with ride height according to rally venues, so this will be useful for me.

I also suspect I have more suspension travel than you, hence the need for the misalignment spacer.

Just need to knock up a bump steer gauge now.

Yeah sounds a fair solution. I'll prob just get them made for my requirements and have them fixed as I don't change my ride height.

How are you doing the bump steer gauge?

Some Mdf and a dti gauge. Quite a few examples of home made gauges if you have a quick google.

Cheapest off the shelf seems to be longacre, but it's still £150. That's a cut slick!

my rose jointa turned up today and im pleased with them.

fully wound in the length from the end of the inner rod including the M12 thread to the centre of the rose joint is 397mm with a tape measure so give or take a mm.

the longest lenth they can be using around 13mm of thread wound into the inner rod is 415mm give or take a mm.

ive been thinking regarding using a 12mm bolt to go through the rose joint and clamp through the hub... whats stopping moving upto a M14 cap head bolt and then the problem of having to reduce the M14 rose joint down to accept a M12 thread.

The only problem i can see at current is that on Allan's reducer/extension the hub gets drilled to a straight 16mm and then the M12 bolt goes through. If theres enough meat on the hub I could drill the hub to 18mm and then accept a M14 cap head bolt. This seems a better solution in my head but need to check the amount of meat on the hub

Shows one wound out and one wound in with the half nuts fitted. Plenty of room to clip the ends off if required...

I can make the top hats to any size mate. The 1/2 inch ones we do for the clios is 14mm outside so very thin wall.

We use 1/2" or m12 as its easier to get bolts and they're lighter. M14 is fine, just overkill.

If you use m14 I can supply cap head bolts with a chamfer turned on to give the rose joint more clearance.

sounds good, I just think using M14 is keeps things simple rather than adapting down to M12 again.

Just purchased a VTS rack for this to all fit on. Also means I can dry build it all off the car which is easier.

VTS rack turned up and took the 205 track rods and TRE's off. (was fitted to a 205 already)

306/rose joints sit a bit longer than 205 length. Might be able to get away with not cutting because of the 309 gear but at worst ill take a bit off.

all built up. ready to test fit!

measures just under 126cm end to end (middle of the RJ's) when they are wound in.

Pulled off the standard rallye rack which is 3.8 turns.

I measured my new VTS rose joint rack at a minimum of 126cm, the rack that came off my car from centre to centre of track rod ends was 123mm. so I had to trim down my 306 rods so it would fit.

took 20mm off each side.

Then fitted the rack on, had to drop the subframe down to be able to get the VTS one in place.

Im awaiting the adaptors to come from allanallen so to get the car back on its wheels I had to drop a couple of bolts through so I can push it back over to its storage.

Hopefully some helpful information if anyone else is using this to attempt it.

That looks like a nice setup. How would shoulder bolts do to bolt them to the hubs. Maybe even machined to suit.

I would be thinking of wire locking that nut on or at least using a nylock nut!!

but great set up and great thinking!!!!! love it!!
