Finding Previously Owned Cars

Recommended Posts

minimaniacwhyard

So has anyone ever had any luck finding a car they used to own. Out of the three 205s I have owned I fancy looking for my first a 1.6 white CTI. I loved the car but in was 18 insurance was huge fuel cost to much and I regret getting shot of it. Anyone know how to go about seeing if its even alive. Reg d154bpd

dvla website says its not on the database which probably means its been written off or possibly been changed to a private plate?

Vehicle details could not be found
As it has not been possible to locate the vehicle details, your enquiry cannot proceed and has been cancelled.

I saw my old beloved 1.6 GTi 4 or 5 years after I traded it in for a Saxo VTR, it was parked on a street in Leeds in a right state, someone had put steel wheels on and ruined it, it was a wreck, I was tempted to go and knock on the house door and offer to buy it on the spot. I didn't but wish I had!!

By the way, anyone in contact with Joe Howman (I think that's his name) I now own his 205 GTi which was featured in issue 120 of Torque, would be good to let him know where his car is as he took such pride in it, as I now do!!

I don't think it ever actually says "scrapped" on the DVLA site. But if it lists the "Date of liability" (i.e when the last tax disc ran out) as several years ago, and doesn't mention being SORN then it's reasonable to assume the car has been scrapped or broken.

It says the date of liability is March 2014 so that means the car is still on the road

What do youd think they would say "if" you could find out the address of the registered keeper and turned up at the door wanting to buy it lol. Imagine if a previous keeper came to your house and worst case scenario threatened to kill you if you wouldnt sell up. I think id protection can be usefull.

A bit ott maybe but it could happen lol

Fair play its would be nice to learn of our cars history, when i got my logbook i was horrified to see it had 14 previous owners

Sounds bad but in reality the car had been looked after quite well compared to some of the onion bargees i've seen come out of the woodwork.

Saying that my daily a4 has has three owners including me. Its done 211000 miles and is a dog. Depends on how things are looked after milage and amount of owners don't mean anything to me. It could have 15 owners and the 14th may of restored it all.

Ahhh! What a lovely topic! It's nice to know I am not alone in wanting my old car back...

What does it mean when it says 'date of liability' was a couple of years ago? Does that mean, after that date no one is liable for the vehicle = scrapped? It also says unlicenced and if a car is now SORN, it says so.... :(

My second 205 (the one I desperately want back) is showing as 'sorn in place' Doesn't show a date of liability so I am guessing she is still someones responsibility...
I know deep down she is festering away somewhere in Wales (SW), Pontypool area ish! I'd give anything to have her back!

If you see her, graphite grey 205 5 door 1.8 turbo diesel. K773 LUF

no date of liability just means the sorn doesn't run out at the end of the current month, and a date of liability that is a couple of years old will pretty much mean that the car is history.

Although there's always a chance that someone could have bought it without the logbook and barn'd it for a few years

Well the car was sold in 2006 with the plans of taking it off road to race with, so I guess there's still hope that although the liability was a couple of years ago it could still be around.... (wishful thinking maybe)...

Poor 205 :( Just read the statistics of the 1.8 DT 205s on howmanyleft, gutted they are THAT rare now... there's more of my new styles on the road!
