Steering Rack

Hi Everyone,

 

I think there is something slightly odd about the steering on the beast...

 

Under power and some lock there is a weird tapping noise .... Also Just recently occasionally over bumps and things that is a rattle noise from the front of the car, I can also feel it through the steering wheel. Another point is that the steering wheel does not quite line up properly.

 

So just wondering what your thoughts are?

Tapping under power and lock is probably a failing driveshaft outer joint - it will change with road speed if so.

 

Steering wheel not lining up would suggest checking the tracking as a first port of call.

 

Rattling over bumps could be all manner of things and hard to pin point from such a vague description.

Thanks you for the feedback I really appreciate it. So it just a matter of time until the shaft gives way then?

 

With regards to the rattle is has only happened a couple of times, I was just wondering if it was connected to the other problem.
