Help Me! Oil Change Gone Wrong

Recommended Posts

hattjosh

Hi guys

I am in need of your help once again. After work today I changed my oil and filter and attempted to sort a rather annoying oil leak from around the oil/water cooler, I put everything back together with sealant on the cooler between it and the block but it's still leaking oil.

My question is, how tight does the oil filter bolt go? I'm worried i may have crushed something and bent it out of shape.

sorry for the long post but it's my commuter and i've got work in the morning.

thanks

Its supposed to have an o-ring fitted between block and cooler assembley.

It does still have that but I'm thinking it might be a bit tired. so this time i've put sealant behind the "o" ring and i've just lightly tightened the bolt hoping it's going to seal properly.

just about to go and put it all back together and run it. fingers crossed.

Ok, that hasn't worked.

I'm going to remove the heat exchanger and put a short filter bolt in so the filter mounts directly to the block.

in the mean time I'll be stealing the missus car. Ha

cheers for the help.

I had a similar problem turned out to be a tiny hole in the filter where I had used filter grips a little too hard

Thought I'd give this and ending.

After fitting a short oil filter bolt to screw the filter directly to the block, it was still leaking oil.

so I went looking with a mirror on a stick and have found it is infact leaking from the oil pressure switch/sender "t" piece. So I'll be getting some new copper washers and ptfe tape to solve that.

cheers for the suggestions guys

Oil filters should be installed by hand?

ahh those sods, the M16 thread in the end isn't deep enough for most senders, so they bottom out in the thread before the actual mating face clamps up properly, a couple of solid and crush copper washers sorted it.

Beat me to it, why people insist on fitting oil filters with grips is beyond me

It's where I had ongoing issues with my oil pressure sender and had it on and off several times to gain access
