Fuel Tank Questions?

Recommended Posts

pip470

Its been a while since i removed the fuel tank and im a little confused about the two thin breather pipes.

I have had a good poke of the top circled breather, and a good look at it and tried blowing and sucking on it but its not going into the tank. The connector actually looks like its blocked with the same material its made from. Im sure this cant be right. Has anyone got a tank of the car they can have a check on theres?

Next question, one of the thin pipes pictured here, must plug into the red circled pipe.

This is one continuous pipe that goes up around the filler neck, through a canister and then back down, So where does the other end go?

Hi Phil,

Just reviewing my photos, see these

I think it's a vent line

So if my memory is correct, it comes from the tank, up behind the filler hose, connects to the white NRV (I assume this is what it is) then from the NRV, down the other side and out the bottom of the wheel arch.

When I am next with my bits I can confirm the above as I took the line out complete.(will also test it)

Sorry it's sketchy but I hope this helps a little bit

Thank you very much mate, I appreciate it. So in reality as long as it points downwards somewhere, maybe not on front of the wheel it should be ok. Im still confused why the fitting on he tank seems to be blocked up on mine so if you can check yours when you get chance that would be great.. Thanks again paul.

In fact i think you can see on your pic here where yours differs from mine. It looks like yours vent goes to the white thing and then like other threads have mentioned and you said also, post-8104-0-33595000-1390582624_thumb.jpgout of the arch as pictured here, but mine goes back town the filler neck. Ill just route it as yours is.

have taken a photo of it

The white device is a non return valve. Have checked on the fuel tank and the vent line outlet is not blocked. The vent line itself can let air in but not out, just checked by blowing in both directions.

Just to note that it does not seem to open freely, I had to blow quite hard to get it to open.

I'm no expert but your NRV looks very much like an in line filter...

Phill,

Before you go too mad, just had a look on service box and your arrangement is correct as there was a change part way through production.

The arrangement I have is not shown on any of the diagrams in service box, they are all as yours is installed

That's an late car fuel tank layout , so Motronic car with fuel vapour recirculation system ..

The two small hoses from the filler neck travels underneath the length of the floor and connects in the engine bay on the solenoid purge valve and charcoal filter .
