Bosch Fuel Pumps - Which Do I Need?

Recommended Posts

Rob Thomson

Hello chaps,

New years resolution is to get the 205 back on the road after ~4.5 years of not being used. It recently managed to power itself onto a trailer and drove ~150yds when we moved house, but now it won't start. Chief suspect is the fuel pump which I reckon has been on its way out for a while.

Anyway, I popped into my usual factors today to enquire about a new one. Being a snob (and stupid) I ideally want a Bosch pump, and there were a couple of options.

1) The pump complete with a new housing for £190+VAT. Even I'm not that stupid, I think.

2) Just the pump, for about £115+VAT. I can just about cope with that (yes, still quite stupid).

However, the chap only found the second option after being redirected from a discontinued Intermotor part (i.e. their system said "this is no longer available but this Bosch part will do instead..."). Something about it made me a bit unsure it was the correct part, probably the word "Intermotor".

Does anyone have any experience of these options? Ideally, does anyone have a Bosch part number for the pump only?

The car's a 1992 1.6 GTi.

Many thanks, Rob.

Hi,

Does anyone know the part number for a fuel pump for a 1988 1.6 ?

Does the grommet / seal come with it ?

Are they available new / reconditioned ?

Thankyou.
