Xs Anti Roll Bar Bushes

Recommended Posts

claypole1360

Hi all,

I had a play with the front suspension and reckon I need new bushes where the antiroll bar goes into the bottom arm, any idea what the part number might be?

Are there any group N ones?

Calvin

Are you talking about the anti roll bar bushes or the track control arm bushes?

The ARB bushes are only available from peugeot if they still do them

The TCA Bushes are available in polyurethane from TiMotorsport for around £50 and I highly recommend them

Hi Calvin,

I'm not sure, It's the ones that go through the wishbone, not where the roll bar mounts on the car. does that make sense? Which ones are those?

Make perfect sense yes, what you call the wishbone is a Track control arm 'TCA'

The full arm with new bushes and ball joint are about £20 a side on eBay, you can buy the bush you need seperate but sometimes it's worth doing the whole arm

Thanks Calvin,

that makes a lot of sense to me too, is it the same as the GTI track control arm?

That's fantastic, like the first pic then, I think i'll go for a pair of arms then, cheers Calvin.

Yes the top ones.

It's hard for me to explain but when tightening the 2 bushes up the car needs to be sat on the floor so the bushes are in a relaxed position..

If you tighten the bushes with the car jacked up and then put it on the floor the bushes will be constantly under strain and won't last 5 minutes before they wear out.

Also use the correct torq settings ;)

Thanks Calvin,

I get the tightening up bush thing, even had to put 150 kilos in the driver seat to even it up if I remember, I have built up the suspension older cars with bushes, mainly old triumphs, Heralds, Bonds and my TR7V8, but that is of another era, still building up confidence with the 205, hence what might seem like numpty questions.

Cheers, Calvin

Haha! No I didn't think you were a numpty just pointing out things that have helped me! I have no idea what your skill level is! :D

Another handy tip is to jack both sides up, if you do one at a time the full force is on the ARB making it really difficult to get the ball joint off

Car already on 4 axle stands while I rebuild the brakes and get the wheels blasted and powder coated, just putting back together now, I have experience with old cars but still no skill level :D, I regularly make the biggest of automotive cock ups, I sprinted a Bond Equipe for five years that I built from a box of bits and I am stunned that it didn't ever disintegrate and that scrutineers passed it. All advice is certainly welcome from those in the know, and if you ever want to know how to change the gearbox on a Triumph Herald, I'm your man. ;)

Calvin.

Thinking about it, with the Heralds, you needed a ball joint splitter to replace them, is that the case or will a well aimed smack with a hammer do the trick?

Nice, I bet the bond was fairly good being fiberglass and lightweight or am I talking out of my arse?

The ball joint is held by a pinch bolt so come undone easy normally

The Bond was a second faster round Thoresby park than the TR7V8. Not bad for a little 105bhp 1500 with a top speed of 90mph. It was stripped out, caged and running semi-slicks but was still MOTed and taxed. It was uncompetitive in its owmn class against 2 litre mk2 escorts and mantas that were race prepped, but against road cars it was very good, It had seen off a Ferrari 348 and a 911 carrerra 4 although I am fairly sure that was more to do with the drivers than with the car.

I am hoping that the xs will be competitive in the standard class as the display cabinet is in need of some silverware!!
