Changing Pads And Discs......

Good Morning all!

 

I have always wanted to be able to work on my car, so I have decided I want to attempt to change the disks and pads on it. I have been doing some research on the web and I have found that youtube tutorials have been very useful, it doesnt look as hard as I thought it would.

 

I was just wondering if there are any tips you guys have, or things I should consider before undertaking this job. I have a basic mechanical brain but want to get decent so I can prepare a car for competition.

Copper grease is always a good one, on the hub and disc face and back of the pads. Make sure you use the correct grease on the sliders, not just any old grease as it eats the rubber boots.

 

Clean the discs!

 

And bed the new brakes in properly.

Ok Ali thanks! Is there a special brand I should go for? Also are there any special tools I will need?

A decent jack and a pair of axle stands, a little tray to keep your bits in, some brake cleaner spray and basic tools are all thats needed. Brembo make great value discs and pads, just double check you get the right ones for your car...

Something to push the caliper piston back in eg big grips

One of these will help remove the screws from the discs which can often be a pain as they get stuck.
