Oil For High Miler

Recommended Posts

Donk

Hi everyone. My old 1.9 gti (1988) has done 160k miles. Top end was rebuilt last year but not touched block, rings etc. there is no blue smoke or bad oil consumption but a slight smell. What oil would you recommend? Due oil change.

Thanks in advance.

Mine has done nearly 200k. I change oil every six months and have only ever used Mobil Super S / Super 2000 10/40 semi and Purflux filters. I consider that combo to be pretty decent.

Not for a high mileage engine. 10/40 or 15/40 were originally specified for the XU.

A half decent 10W40 semi-synthetic and a quality filter is absolutely fine for a primarily road used 205.

That what I've used for many years in all my engines, most of which are fairly leggy mileage wise, without issue.

mine is on 166 or 167k, just bog standard 10w40 and yearly or 6k mile oil and filter changes.

I've used some Miller oils on higher milage cars and found them sound.
