Xsara Vts Master Cylinder

Recommended Posts

I'm in the process of getting a 205 shell with extras but one thing its missing is the master cylinder and brakes (servo still there). It is a non abs shell.

Now after reading up I notice a lot of people upgrade to the 306 gti6 calipers on the front. I just so happen to have the remains of a xsara vts I brought for a engine a while back and happen to have the calipers and discs lying around in my unit so will be perfect. I keep reading though that most people upgrade to a 405 master cylinder but is my xsara unit of any use I understand its only 2 outlets so would have to split the lines to each corner but just wondering if the mc is any good or is the 405 one superior as I'd like to save penny's where possible but also want to do it properly

I think you may find the mountings of the mc to servo to be different, best to check.

The bolts are offset diagonally on the Xsara so it wont fit. And it's a 406 one you need, not a 405.

Ah ok saves me unbolting it from the car then. Thanks guys

And yeah I'll look for a 406 one not 405 lol

Mike,

I've got a working master cylinder you can have, off 1989 1.9 gti (you pay postage), or wait as I'm often in Aylesbury on business and I'll drop it off.

Thanks mate appreciate it but I'll be fitting the gti6 front brakes so will upgrade it as apparently the 1.9 master cylinder has a long travel?

Never had any issues with a std 205 one, the variation on pedal travel is more down to the servo,
