Well, ask for more overtime then?))) seriously though, in or around that wage bracket, if you want something then you'll find a way to save for it... I see people buy new cars and it's mostly mundane run of the mill stuff, a new Astra for 15k, I'm sorry but I would need to shoot myself in that case no matter what the circumstances... the amount we're discussing purchasing a mint/A1 205 Gti for is just insignificant in contrast.

None of my farmer mates I know earn 4 k a month, to get even close you would have to work every hour under the sun and even then am on a salary, and I am the bosses son.

Well am still waiting for somebody special to say on here is ten grand for all your NLA parts ha ha.

It's only just over two months wages so shouldn't be long ;-)

Where did you get your wheels from? Never seen 17" replicas of the original speedline design!

I believe they're photoshopped.

What do the MOT's and any other bits of paperwork between those dates say, as I'm assuming that it's had more than 3 MOT's in the 8½ year window?

If everything else ties up and there's just a single MOT with a grossly higher figure that's unrealistic then it won't be an issue as it's clearly an error, whereas if there's huge gaps in the history or the mileage figures in general look fishy then it's clearly much more of an issue for this end of the market.

Hi Anthony thanks for the reply

mot's tie back to 2007 where it states it has 42k on it

which all ties in , I still think this is an input error

I had another car which jumped from 110k to 10k to 120k

The wear on the car is quite minimal too

54k in 18 months is roughly 100 miles a day. Do able.

Paul I know it put you off buying this and that is up to you

but I would not take no less on the car cos I think the mileage is correct and it is an input error

good luck in your hunt for a cheap 205

But seriously I dont know many folk who do this mileage

If you want to break it down

5 days a week

31 day off a year

you work 232 days

and the other 6 months 116

348 in total

348 into 54k is 155 mile commute every day in a 205 gti

now imagine that on fuel

I rep for my own company round the uk and i would not choose a 205 gti to do 155 miles a day

thanks spencer

what's 4k? a months wage, it's nothing these days... yip, it's a lot if you don't have it but realistically it's not a lot of money today.

On the contrary, I'd say that £4k is still a lot of money these days, due to how the economy has affected most people over the last couple of years. Don't forget that a lot of people driving around in new cars haven't actually bought them outright and are simply leasing them (or whatever the current buzzword is for these arrangements these days).

And 4k a month's wage? Good for you if that's what you earn, but it's hardly normal. That's nearly twice the average UK salary in 2013.

I get your point and I realise you were just saying that £4k isn't an unrealistic price for Speno's GTI, but in the process you just managed to really patronise some of us who are in less fortunate financial positions.

Sorry! I think you have me confused with someone else. I never enquired about buying your car as sadly I don't make £4k a month.... At least not once the government and my wife have dipped their hands in :)

I already have a 205 and am not looking for another...... I'm really confused.

The mistake on the MOTs wouldn't have put me off even I had been looking. It's obviously a mistake. I was just saying that 100 miles a day isn't really that much to some people. I was going to average it over 5 days like what you did but my maths isn't that good.... I'm not even going to try to work out the fuel. And yes, as much fun as a 205 is to drive it really would NOT be my choice for that kind of mileage.

Anyway, good luck with the sale. Baffles me why it hasn't sold.

PS, nice Z4C. I had one exactly the same (montego blue and MV2s) a few years back. Sound awesome with the sound generator mod.

WP > if I've offended you, then sorry, min, sometimes we lose sight of the hours we put in and the conditions in which we work that it almost could be cloud-cuckoo land, I always wanted to be a mechanic but when I seen the wages they make I said to hell with that for no amount of love.

GPL > Not my style to patronise, am sorry it came across like this, I shouldn't have posted with such insensitivity, it was off the cuff and definitely not intended... it's just there is no recession here, we're not affected by it... sometimes we just are interested in sharing an opinion we don't realise how we come across, I put my hands up, definitely guilty on this count.
