Another Expensive 205 Gti

Seem to becoming more common these high prices, every day I see cars being broken so its only a matter of time before all cars are worth a good sum, seen it so many times over the years. Look at simple cars like Cortinas, Escorts etc...... they were cheap as chips years ago, they seemed to be everywhere, then over a few short years they became a rare sight on the roads.

I contacted the dealer about this very car about 2 months ago when it was for sale previously as the price was POA. I have an email from him saying the price was £7995. He has now decided to re-advertise it at almost double that.

All very well advertising it at a high price. I very much doubt he'll be selling it though

the original 'minters' seem to be priced in the that bracket, to me its still stupid money, but a non original being advertised in that bracket is crazy?

I've previously defended these high prices, and I understand that Ireland prices are higher anyway, but..................................£15k is taking the effing piss!

That will be sitting around at that price for quite some time I think.

What is stopping folk buying it please ?

Is it advertised anywhere else? If it's only on here then that's your problem. Everyone on here is as tight as a nun's chuff :D

Looks lovely though.

But surely the psychology of this is obvious, it won't sell, but the next one like that pops up @ say 8k will be regarded as a bargain - and will

Thanks

Its just on here at the moment and it seems that most folk on here has a 205 or two or three

On another note a chap did A HPI check on it yesterday and it came back with a mileage discrepancy

reads kinda as follows

date 13/04/2001 mileage 21k

05/10/2002 mileage 75k

30/09/2009 mileage 47k

To me that is an input error cos surely , someone cant do 54k in 18 months

The 21k in 2001 ties in cos it was imported back from jersey in 99

Any thoughts?

Where did you get your wheels from? Never seen 17" replicas of the original speedline design!

Any thoughts?

What do the MOT's and any other bits of paperwork between those dates say, as I'm assuming that it's had more than 3 MOT's in the 8½ year window?

If everything else ties up and there's just a single MOT with a grossly higher figure that's unrealistic then it won't be an issue as it's clearly an error, whereas if there's huge gaps in the history or the mileage figures in general look fishy then it's clearly much more of an issue for this end of the market.

54k in 18 months is roughly 100 miles a day. Do able.

Or one long trip and back every weekend of about 1000 miles, which is easy to do.

I think this car was for sale a couple of years ago when it had some RAF orientated private number plate on it, but I could be wrong as I can't remember if that one was silver, the pilot bit just rang a few bells. If it is I think it's tripled in price.

It's a very clean and original looking car but you would obviously need a good "poke" around.

It's quite some price tag, though.......

I say it's all good, Having mine with 72k on means it's looking like a good investment, Bring it on is all I will say. Look at Mini's, they go for silly money and I cannot see the appeal of those really.

All very well people wanting there cars to increase in value me included but that means also the parts head in an upward direction and that suits me also.

it'll sell sooner or later, car's in that condition always will, FSH with 34,000 miles, it's easily worth 10,000k in my view. Where else you going to find one like that?

and so will your's Spence, what's 4k? a months wage, it's nothing these days... yip, it's a lot if you don't have it but realistically it's not a lot of money today.

Agree with you on "it all looks good" but disagree about the appeal of the old Mini... the "original" remnants of the works car's go to auction now for around an estimated 150,000k :D if it wasn't for the old Mini then Britain would be ashamed of itself in international motorsport
