Surely Not A Good Sign?!

Hi..
Got a service done on the motor with my mechanic, although he didn't mention anything on Friday when I collected it. I spotted this today while checking the filters etc were changed.

Does this mean there is water mixing with the oil?? Should I be concerned?

Thanks

that is often quite normal if the car is used for short journeys and never warms up properly.

I found, that good oil alleviates this issue dramatically.

check the breather pipes too as they might be full of gunk and have an affect on the running

Well to be honest I'm not overly sure, I just remember discussing with my uncle that it's a common issue of these engines and he said that time long ago when oils weren't as good as they are now this was common across all engines and if I remember correctly it was mobil who started to advertise that their new oils didn't have this problem, but I'm sure it was a mixture of engine building and oil tech which saw this issue away. However one could presume that a badly designed oil breather system could make normal oils have this problem, but I've found that the oil I've used in my last change hasn't mayo'd at all. But then again during the oil change to the new high quality oil I did replace all the breather pipes with brand new silicone pipes so they'll be nice and clean for a time at least.

If you do some research on the forums you'll find all you need to know to deal with this problem.

Looks perfectly normal to me, hot liners inside a cold engine causing condensation which will collect at the highest point (the gauze in the cap) short trip cars will be much worse and a good 1/2 hour run should disperse it all. If its always present or gets worse to the point where the cap is chocka block full of mayo something might not be quite right

It is normal but as DanteIce said it has to do also with bad breather design. And this is a fact for PSA early engines.I clean it quite often but i cant avoid it as i make mostly short journeys with low revs.I was just curious why a good oil can improve it.Perhaps better 'thermal' attitude. One more reason for good oil then.Once i had put the cheap oil of lidl just for few days as a way to flush engine. It was a nightmare the mayo had been builted:D

I usually use an oil flush additive such as Forte Advanced Engine Flush before I drain the old stuff then use comma oil flush two times (out of one purchase of 5 litres) to really help push out the old oil and then I use a quite expensive fully synthetic oil from a good brand (Mobile Extended Life 10w-60 for anyone interested, it's totally overkill, but it helped with my low pressure and rattly 8v engine - just needs to last before the Mi16 is rebuilt).

Mobil synthetics are high quality oil.But 10w60 better used only for turbos or track days. Can it be healthy for a road car even if it is a rattly one? A 60grade oil at 100C is so THICK..
