Thanks, yes, really pleased with the paint job, its perfect. I have built a few freshly painted cars now so I’m we’ll practiced at being very careful around the painted panels.

I’m still, very, very careful though and some jobs are still a little “twitchy bum”;;)

Last Thursday the clutch cable was broken on the highway. I was lucky that I could adjust timing at the traffic lights. Reached destination with a non stop 50 km drive. Yes, shifting w/o clutch.
Today clucth cable changed with a brand new one. This was first time for me. I read some posts dated 2008, it was pretty easy, thanks to Graham and 205GTidrivers.com

its surprising how easy it is to change gear in a 205 without a clutch, mine snapped after i fitted the old one back when i rebuilt the car on the way to a car show. Stupid thing to do .. i should have just fitted a new one!

 

Anyway i called a mate who said 'Dont be a Pu**y' just rev match it, i thought it would be impossible but it was much easier than i thought. Only real issue was getting caught at a dead stop a few times and having to launch it by making it jump forward on the starter. 

 

A skill learnt and a valuable lesson in not penny pinching.

I'm just glad i hadn't already fitted the new ones i bought a few weeks earlier.  I've decided to hold off putting the new ones on until the car's able to be used again - just incase they come back & pinch my replacements.

Hadn't checked on the car for a week & went out this afternoon to be greeted by the below - looks like the recent hot spell finally killed off my original gear knob that had already cracked in 2 places.  Put it back on loose for a posterity pic.  Still at least it meant it was easy to remove with no risk of bleeding noses as highlighted on older threads on here :lol:

So time for the new gearknob to go on.  Decided to use a Momo Anatomico as it's pretty much the same size as the original (pic below).  Not tightened it on fully yet as i'm going to add some rubber / wrap / tape around the tangs on the shaft to ensure it sits at the right height & is also secure.

I did also have a retro round black / red Momo Airleather knob to consider but after putting it on loose, it just looked weird as the red stood out far too much.  If i don't get on with the new knob (whenever the car next gets used) i guess i can always revert back to the spare original knob i've got in the loft.

Bought a new steering wheel!

After seeing a post on here about the dealer option momo steering wheel and Peugeot horn button I really fancied one for my car. So after searching eBay a few times for momo steering wheels, this one came up with the 'champion du monde' horn button! Thinking it would go for silly money, I entered my max bid and forgot about it. Few days later, I'd won it for a bargain price! Cleaned up quite well too!

Well done getting it, the horn push is on my 'to get' list.

 

The wheel itself is a V35, but I've also seen them referred to as Monte-Carlo's, so don't know for sure.

 

They were also available with a padded center.

 

There's a circular metal cup that it attaches to, that in turn uses two of the bolt holes to hold it to the wheel, but it's the same as yours beneath.

Gosh, that takes me back. 
I’m aiming to make my car pretty standard but I can most certainly see the appeal of a few ‘period’ mods. 
The wheel is pretty much the same style as TVR had in the Grifs and Chims.

Nardi did some nice wheels back then too. Momo Corse? 

 

Must have spent too much time picking through Ripspeed catalogues..:ph34r:

Nice choice with the period Momo wheels guys :)  And yes, Momo Corse was the other period choice in either the same size as standard D35, or smaller D32.

 

Speaking of which, after making a start on the gear knob yesterday, i decided to finish that off today and then thought i might as well fit the Momo Corse steering wheel, i've had in storage for a while, to match.  Thankfully the standard wheel came off nice & easily & the period Momo boss & wheel went on fine.  Nice opportunity to christen my newly purchased socket kit & torque wrench too :)  I did have a period Snap Off removable hub to use as well, but after fitting it, the wheel was located a bit too far away from the dash from standard for my liking so i've decided to leave that off.

Fitted a wideband sensor to plumb into the ECU. Now to hide the Gauge..

Looks very neat.  May I ask what you have used for a blanking pannel over the air vents to mount the gauges into?

Thanks, I removed the two movable vents keeping the outer intact, then hand bent some 1mm ally plate over the vent housing. I cut the gauge holes before I shaped the plate. Filed the housing then glued the plate on with epoxy resin.

Looks good. Some 205s came without the moveable vents, that could work too. I managed to pick 1 up on eBay fairly cheap not that long ago.
