I sometimes wonder what the point of the Rallye was when it was slower than the XS and and barely 20 kilos lighter. I assume that the iron block tu engine is more tunab;le and more solid when tuned for motorsport than the alloy block. The only other reason for having a rallye that I can think of is the fact that it is the coolest looking 205 this side of a Pikes Peak Hill racer.

And another thing,,,,,why did they only do the twin weber 105bhp in abroad? What a tool!

I read super rare as the twin carb 1294cc tu2 which was just over 100bhp.

As far as looks go isn't it just an XS with some stickers?

It says 1.4 though?

The xs was the better car, lighter, more powerful and better specced. But the rallye is just cooler!

Far from it, only similarity to an xs is the shell, seats, running gear, the dash, engine, box, beam wheels are different, xs was lighter even!

I love how us Rallye owners or ex owners defend them to end! Just those who haven't owned them bash them

Plus the GT and XR models.... Whatever the spec's they are I don't know. I'm still wondering what my '89 1.4 GR is lol

Autocar has certainly made plenty of use of the many pics it took of my car, and this is the first time that I've seen that great video. I hadn't realised how rorty it sounds from the outside with its standard OE exhaust - very pleasing.

Andrew Frankel tried quite hard to get me to sell it to him but it's going nowhere. He's now bought a very nice G-reg 1.9 in Miami Blue. Other motoring hacks with recent 205 GTI purchases include Adam Towler and Ben Oliver. Kyle Fortune has had a 1.6 for many years, and Chris Harris still has his much-loved XS.
